What's the best way to teach my one month old to fall asleep without sucking?

My son usually falls asleep at the , and will continue napping, or if I see he is very tired, a pacifier will quickly make him sleep, but it took my now 6 yr old nearly 3 years to break the habit of ociating a pacifier with sleep (and though she went to sleep like an angel everynight and for naps, it was really tough to take the pacifier away.) I'm trying not to get into the habit with my newborn, so do you have any suggestions of getting the little one to sleep without a pacifier now to prevent the problem later?
